Heavy Metal is hard and fast, loved by rock enthusiasts worldwide. Heavy metal originated as a genre of rock music that first came about in the early 1970´s. Heavy metal has its roots in the hard rock bands of that time, and is a mix of blues and rock along with heavy, thick guitar and quick, fast paced drums. You´ll also know it´s heavy metal when there´s plenty of guitar distortion thrown in the mix.
Some of the more popular heavy metal bands include Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath. Bands like these helped put the heavy metal genre on the map, and more bands soon followed suit as the wild music sound became more popular.
When you listen to heavy metal and compare it to other rock music, you´ll find that heavy metal is one of the most extreme forms of music. Not only is it louder, but the sounds are harsher and the beat is definitely at a much louder pace.
The most common instruments in a heavy metal band include the drums, a bass guitar, and regular guitar. There should be two guitarists, one for rhythm guitar, and the other for lead guitar. Keyboards were once popular in the early days of heavy metal, but were eventually phased out. They are still used by some bands, but shunned by others.
Volume and distortion is often considered the two most important aspects to heavy metal. If you look at the leaders of heavy metal genre, like Ted Nugent or Tony Iommi, you´ll find that their hearing is either gone or going bad quickly because of this fixation with insane volume levels.
As technology has advanced, new and different ways of changing and distoring the guitars sound have come around. Heavy metal bands have adopted these new sounds, as long as they are heavy and thick.
Heavy metal bands always put importance on the stage presence during a live show. Presentation and image is always key to a good heavy metal band, and this makes for great entertainment if you love a live heavy metal show.

powerful, raw, melodic at times yet always against the grain and always metal this band tears up flashrock studio with three songs and an interviev hosted by TFG.

Billie Joe Armstrong is dead! Vince Neil has AIDS! Gene Simmons is gay! These might seem shocking and surprising, maybe even unbelievable. There’s a reason for that, none of it is true. But all of those rumors have gone around the Internet. In fact the rumor about Billie Joe from Greenday spread do fast that mainstream media was reporting it. Greenday actually had to release a statement to prove to people that Billie was still alive and well.
What amazes me and the reason I am writing this blog is the fact that if we started rumors like this about our neighbors we would go to jail for slander or libel. But since these people are celebrities its supposed to roll right off their backs. News flash people Heavy Metal Artists are people. They have families and people they work with that care about them. Can you imagine listening to the radio and hearing that your dad is dead or has been diagnosed with AIDS? It would be unthinkable, but this is what the families of celebrities put up with everyday.
I read a lot of music blogs as that’s the business were in, but I always stop and wonder what connections these guys have to report some of the personal things they put up. Unless it says exclusive interview I don’t believe a word of it. Even then things can be taken out of context.
Concert rumors are one thing and even bands breaking up might be touchable, but reporting information about someone personally that could potentially damage their family is way off limits. If you’re a blog writer and your reading this please know that posting untrue rumors just to climb Google ranks isn’t worth it. Not only is your credibility going to be shot in the blog world, but you could be doing some harm that takes many years to be undone.

Driving my Saturday garbage route, with a Korean music background. The lyrics don’t really go with the vid, but I like it anyway. Just a way to share the tune.

As I stated on my other list, this is just who I like. Not a matter of technical performance or record sales or popularity. These are just the vocalists that you will find on my MP3 Player and on the Flash Drives in my car. I enjoy all music and enjoy writing these heavy metal blogs, just some more then others. Now lets rock this list!
#20 – Rob Halford – Although you will find Rob at the top of most people’s Metal lists I’m not that huge of a Priest fan and never really got into his solo stuff. Even though he is the acclaimed Metal God I’m just giving him some respect for what he’s done and the Priest songs I like.
#19 – Dee Snider – Dee was a lot higher when I started thinking about this list for everything he did for Metal and all the great stuff he said to Tipper Gore back in the day, but then two things happened: Gone Country and the new Twisted song 30. I struggle with Metal musicians doing the crossover. I love the guy and his antics, but he dropped off in my play list during recent times.
#18 – Gene Simmons – Gene will never be known for his vocals, but he has done some classic KISS tunes that we all sing pretty much everyday. His voice is unique and exactly what is needed to offset the high octave of Stanley. Domino and I Love it Loud are two of my favorite KISS songs; both are Gene songs. Gene might not be the professional trained voice of Paul, but his roughness only adds to the Demon and KISS.
#17 – Sebastian Bach – Much like Dee Snider a few years ago Sebastian would have been near the top of my list, but along came his departure from Skid Row and once again that damn Gone Country show. I love the screaming deep vocals of Sebastian on Monkey Business and Slave to the Grind, but not much since then has tickled my fancy. In the next couple of years Sebastian could go either way on my list. If he reunites with Row then he will shoot up drastically, if he produces this album that is half country he will fall down around the number that Stompin’ Tom would be at.
#16 – Bon Scott – A legend. An actual legend that we can say died to young and would have gone on to great things. When musicians die I find people blow their ability out of proportion that is not the case with Bon. He was the voice of true AC/DC classics like TNT and Jailbreak. Bon would be higher on my list, but I was quite young and never got to really appreciate Scott and the energy he brought to AC/DC. He is missed by his fans and band mates.
In the next blog numbers 15 to 11 will be revealed.

Here I go again on another Dave Grohl rant, but the fact is the man has done so much their should be a blog site just on him. (if there’s not already) Probot is the project that Dave formed to show the world his love of Heavy Metal, all forms of Heavy Metal.
The self-titled album features classic Metal, Nu-Metal, Death Metal, Melodic Metal, and a lot of those other Metal categories I hate to see defined. To me its just good old Kick Ass Heavy Metal. Dave never really intended for it to be an album, just a collaboration of some of his friends getting together to play some music he personally loves.
Fellow artists seemed to dig this concept so they turned out in droves to play. Lemmy, King Diamond, Venom, Snake, Jack Black, just to name a few. Only one single came off the album and that was “Shake Your Blood.” An amazing song featuring Lemmy on lead vocals and bass. The rest of the album contains the same feel and jumps around to the point that you can’t wait to hear what’s next. I’ve never hidden the fact that I’m not a major death metal fan, but the two tracks on the album are without monotone vocals and don’t beat you to death with drums that drown everything out. In my humble opinion some of the “Death Metal Legends” could learn a thing or two about how to make Death Metal more commercial for the everyday listener.
Like the first Foo Fighter album Dave recorded all the instruments and put guest vocalists in to complete these Heavy Metal Masterpeices. A few performances did take place on a sort of mini-tour that you can find on some Headbanger’s Ball DVD’s. Lemmy played these shows and summed them up by saying, “the tour was like being back in the 60’s when everything was fun.” That statement not only sums up Probot, but Dave Grohl. When you do something for passion and fun the audience will realize it and love it.
